New Eight-Color Offset Lithograph

I just finished a new print project. It is an 8-color offset lithograph printed with Amanda D’Amico at The Borowsky Center for Publication Arts at The University of the Arts here in Philadelphia.

Over the past few years my work has included appropriated printed imagery culled from coffee table books depicting major American cites. For a while now I’ve been searching for an appropriate method to create one of these images in multiple. Offset fit the bill. This isn’t a digital print or a giclee; this isn’t a reproduction of an existing work – this process is as close to the method I use to create one-of-a-kind works as it gets.

Whitney Museum breaks with two corporate sponsors – HOAX

OOOPS – Totally fell for this. Looks like the bellow listed Biennial site is a fake. Sotheby’s is still listed as a sponsorer at the bottom of the official Whitney website. So much for that. Whoever wrote the copy on the fake site did a great job.

“However, the Whitney also recognizes that some donors and sponsors may seek to use their partnership with the Museum to whitewash their image and to hide the social costs of unchecked capital accumulation behind a façade of charity. These sponsors seek to capitalize on the creativity, intelligence, and culture brought into the world by contemporary artists even as the sponsors make that world unlivable.”

Concurrently (or perhaps as a precursor) – “Arts and Labor group of the Occupy Wall Street movement has published a letter demanding an end to the biannual survey show in 2014″ according to Art Info – with one of the key concerns being the Sotheby’s lockout of union art handlers.

Anyone interested in the way we get our information, and the implications of one group controlling the majority of media in a city should read Dave Davies’ blog (with good continuing coverage here) and listen to him on yesterdays Radio Times. Long story short: Philadelphia Media Network, owners of both The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Daily News and Philly.com, muzzled their reporters to protect their business interests. This is not the first time this has happened and not the way newspapers should work.
