Read More Books, Reader, Book Man – whatever you call him – he is one of the (very) few non-conventional graffiti writers (“street artist”? – ugh, can’t believe I wrote that) making work that I really, really get excited about these days. Not for any big, intellectual reasons or out of a deep love of the style or message – but more for the fact that he is EVERYWHERE – “All Country”. I have always been really attracted to that traveling / creating lifestyle (even if I am basically a homebody) and this guy’s work sort of represents that to me. So I ordered this ‘zine from Operation Madman. It is a really amazing travel document / collage ‘zine / flick collection. It is filled with the type of stuff I used to get so excited about looking through old graffiti ‘zines / Barry McGee books / Stuck On The Map a long time ago. Get a copy! It has a great photo of a hand-painted-hoagie included as well.

I love this sign for Camel Cigarettes from Ryan’s last post. It was designed by Douglas Leigh and completed in 1941. The following excerpt from page 111 of The Devil’s Playground: A Century of Pleasure and Profit in Times Square By James Traub is super interesting. (The entire book is on Google Book here):
